What to do in spring in Haute Maurienne Vanoise ?
Hiking in the heart of the trails
As soon as the fine weather returns, the trails around the villages and and the Vanoise National Park become accessible. This is also the ideal time to observe marmots coming out of hibernation, or enjoy unobstructed views of the snow-covered peaks. From easy itineraries to high-altitude walks, spring hikes offer a breath of fresh air.
In Bonneval sur Arc, for example, a stroll through the traditional hamlets reveals one of France's most beautiful villages in a peaceful atmosphere of stone architecture and breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks.

Getting back in the saddle with mountain biking
When the winter snow clears from the trails, spring becomes an ideal season for mountain biking. Gradual sunshine and mild temperatures create the right conditions for a smooth return to cycling, whether on a conventional or electrically-assisted mountain bike.
Around Val Cenis, several itineraries become accessible from April onwards, depending on snow conditions. In Aussois, the Esseillon forts form an impressive military complex built in the 19th century to protect the kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. These fortifications, located on either side of the Arc valley, are accessible on foot or by mountain bike from spring onwards, and some parts can be visited freely or with a guide.
Further north, the Musée de l'Arche d'Oé in Aussois plunges you into the daily life of yesteryear through the objects, traditions and skills of the valley. It's a great way to learn about Alpine identity and mountain-related trades. In Termignon, the Modane museobar offers an original detour into local life at the time of the train and border crossing with Italy.
Lovers of sacred art can take to the road baroque churches in Haute Maurienne in Haute Maurienne, such as Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Bessans or Saint-Laurent church in Lanslevillard, both renowned for their richly decorated altarpieces. These buildings, often nestled in the heart of villages, are veritable jewels of Alpine religious heritage.
