The Col du Mont Cenis, and the road from Val Cenis to Italy, opened to traffic on Friday May 17, 2024. The opening of the Iseran pass, initially scheduled for June 14, 2024, has been delayed by a few days due to the heavy accumulation of snow at altitude this winter and the weather conditions.

Col du Mont Cenis

Road open to traffic

The access road to the Mont Cenis pass (2081 m altitude), and to Italy, has been open since Friday May 17, 2024.

Please note: in winter, the road is no longer accessible and becomes largely a ski slope: L'Escargot, Europe's longest green run (11km).

The pass is usually closed for the winter season from the 2nd Monday in November (this year, Monday November 11, 2024) to the 2nd Friday in May.

Iseran pass

Road open to traffic

The access road to the Iseran pass has been open to traffic since Monday June 24, 2024.

Europe's highest road pass (2,764m), clearing snow from the Iseran is a major undertaking, requiring several weeks of work on both sides of the pass. Snow depths often reach 8 to 10m in some areas (notably at the "snow bridge" on the Bonneval sur Arc side).

Walls of snow are usually present on the side of the road until early July. Selfie effect guaranteed, but... be careful, there's regular traffic between cars, motorcycles and bikes on this mythical pass of the Route des Grandes Alpes.

The pass is usually closed for the winter season on the 1st Monday in November* (this year, Monday November 4, 2024) until the 2nd Friday in June*.
