The Path to Simple Joy: On Foot and by Bike
On foot
Why choose walking? The Path of Small Joys was created for hikers. From the very beginning, it was designed to be a gentle, accessible, and contemplative route. No steep climbs, no technical challenges—just the simple pleasure of putting one foot in front of the other.
As you walk, you soak in the scenery, taking the time to pass a herd of animals, watch a bird of prey, or greet a villager standing in their doorway. This is a hike focused on the experience, not on performance.
Duration and possible steps
There are many ways to explore the trail:
• As a short loop starting from a village, for a hike lasting 1 to 3 hours.
• As a 2- to 3-day trek, connecting several villages with lodging at each stop.
• In separate sections, thanks to the many access points along the way.
This flexibility allows everyone to tailor their experience based on their schedule, skill level, or current preferences.
By bike
What types of bikes should you use?The road is passable by vehicle along its entire length.
It is primarily suitable for:
- Traditional mountain bikes or electric mountain bikes (e-MTBs)
- Gravel
Services for cyclists

Bus transportation for your trip there or back!
All summer long, buses run through the valley between Modane and Bonneval-sur-Arc. Perfect for planning your trip there or back, this convenient service also allows you to bring your bike thanks to its built-in bike racks.
Are you arriving in Modane by train? You can also take the bus directly to Bonneval-sur-Arc, then leisurely make your way down the Chemin du Petit Bonheur on foot or by mountain bike over the course of a day.
