The big passes and the cycling routes
Mythical passes and...
The Tour de France, the Giro, the Critérium du Dauphiné... the greatest cycling events have all passed through Haute Maurienne Vanoise. Of course: between the Iseran pass, the highest road pass in Europe, the Mont-Cenis or the Galibier, the Croix de Fer and the Télégraphe, the valley is studded with mythical passes. The Maurienne is considered the largest cycling area in the world and in summer its roads attract cyclists from all over the world.
...secret mounts
Haute Maurienne Vanoise also offers more secret and often spectacular climbs, such as the Plan du Lac climb from Val Cenis-Termignon. A route that leads you to the heart of the Vanoise National Park, at an altitude of more than 2300 meters! 15 kilometers, more than 1000 meters of difference in altitude and slopes of more than 10%. The whistles of the marmots will be there to encourage you during the effort. From Avrieux, take the old road of the Esseillon forts, go through Aussois and then climb to the Plan d'Amont dam. Test yourself on the 14 laces of Valfréjus then go on the other side towards L'Orgère: your calves will love it. And to go even further, treat yourself to "La Poule", the tour of the Maurienne and Tarentaise valleys, or do an international circuit passing through Italy from the Mont-Cenis with a return via the Echelle pass, Briançon and the Galibier.
