Bienvenue dans les Alpes sportives

Wide open spaces of the Far North, with steep slopes as a bonus! An invitation to travel between Vanoise and Italy, up where the glaciers culminate, the valley beckons. In the heart of this wilderness, Bessans offers a real breath of fresh air on a high plateau dotted with hamlets and criss-crossed all winter long.

Welcome to

in Haute Maurienne Vanoise

A mountain village

Located at an elevation of 1,750 metres, Bessans is a traditional village, typical of Haute Maurienne Vanoise, on the Italian border and at the edge of the Parc National de la Vanoise.

This authentic village with a family feel perpetuates its traditions through unspoilt nature, religious celebrations (costumed festival on 15th August) and sculpture.

Bessans boasts a rich cultural heritage with its hamlets, mountain cabins, engraved stone and religious buildings including Saint Antoine chapel and its famous frescoes.

Cross-country skiing is a way of life in Bessans. Many of the inhabitants have competed more than once in the marathon that takes place here at the beginning of each year.

The course varies from year to year, naturally, but the sporting achievements are always there alongside the pleasant memories shared between family and friends.

Not convinced yet? Well, there’s also the international biathlon stadium where you can have a go yourself, guided by an instructor, at this sporting discipline that the French are so fond of.
