Aussois

A very easy green circuit for all the family which allows to discover the mountain bike and the surroundings of the village, and to admire a part of the forts of the Esseillon barrier.

Description

Starting fromAussois, but more precisely in the vicinity of Fort Marie-Christine, which you can easily approach by bike from Aussois.
Fort Marie-Christine is one of the 5 forts of the Barrière de l'Esseillon. Built in the 19th century on a rocky lock closing the upper Arc valley (Maurienne valley) above Modane, these fortifications were designed to protect the Cisalpine part of the Kingdom of Sardinia from any French invasion. It comprises four forts and a redoubt, named after contemporary members of the House of Savoy.
An easy hike offering beautiful views of the valley and surrounding forts.

Location

The course starts at Fort Marie-Christine, with parking nearby.
You can also start from Aussois .
In summer, you can take the S52 bus (Modane - Aussois - Lanslebourg) and get off at the "Le Centre" stop; the bus is equipped with a bicycle trailer every day except Saturday.
