La Traversée des Rois Mages

The “Traversée des Rois Mages” is a ski mountaineering event that commemorates one of the oldest ski crossings in the Alps.
The race is open to all ski tourers, regardless of their physical and technical level. This meeting of lovers of ski mountaineering and the mountains in winter is above all a great moment of conviviality accessible to all those who practice this discipline. Two routes are proposed to connect Valfréjus in France to Bardonecchia in Italy.

In addition to the sporting challenge, we “do” the Traversée des Rois Mages for its magical setting.

As far as the eye can see, a white universe, a few sleeping alpine chalets, silence and serenity.

From Valfréjus, the direction is towards the Thabor refuge before the descent to the Re Magi refuge and an arrival at the Granges de la Vallée étroite a few steps from Bardonecchia.

2 routes are proposed to connect Val Fréjus to the Granges de la Vallée Etroite.

  • The routes are traced and marked out, after validation by a professional.
  • Participants can follow these itineraries either independently with their club or under the supervision of volunteers from the CAFs of Modane, Maurienne, Briançon and CAI.
  • The courses are closed by a lane clamp.

An exceptional ride on a majestic site

Les Rois Mages is a small rocky massif composed of three summits – Pointe Gaspard 2,808 m, Pointe Melchior 2,948 m, Pointe Balthazar 3,153 m – which stand opposite the Vallée Etroite pass.

The Thabor massif, with its peak reaching 3,178 m, is on the border with the Hautes-Alpes department. Whether you are roaming on the GR5 or on holiday in Valfréjus, you can hike the trails, spend a night at the Thabor refuge and enjoy an exceptional mountain setting.
