The Monolith of Sardières is a geological curiosity famous for climbing. It is a fine needle of cargnele with warm, yellow ochre colors, 93 meters high in the heart of the Plan Bois forest. Access door to the Vanoise National Park.

Description

Inauguration site of the Vanoise National Park, the Monolith is a developed site. This needle which emerges in the middle of the pines is composed of cargneule, a rock of sedimentary origin particularly hard which resisted to the erosion whereas the less resistant rocks which surrounded it disappeared. Climbed for the first time in 1957, the monolith now attracts thousands of climbers from all over the world to tackle this 93 meter giant.
