The telegraph Chappe of Courberon located at 2 002 meters altitude in Avrieux was part of a communication line linking Paris to Venice.
-
Conceived in the context of the French Revolution by Claude Chappe, this system profoundly changed the way messages were exchanged by using optical signals that took turns from station to station.
This section, wanted by Napoleon who feared a resumption of hostilities with Austria, unfortunately had a short lifespan. In fact, from 1814-1815 and the restoration of the kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia, the link to Italy was abandoned.
