In the late 19th century, following the expropriation of municipal land by the State, the Mountain Land Restoration Department (RTM) was able to begin some impressive construction work. Half way up, at the "Route du RTM" sign, we recommend a 15-minute detour to the Saint Antoine mountain stream, where you can see the work carried out by the RTM. The purpose of these structures is to protect the town of Modane from torrential flooding, avalanches and landslides.
