Do you know the Charmaix torrent?
It's so enduring that it comes straight from the Sainte-Marguerite lakes on the outskirts of the Thabor refuge, rising at an altitude of 2,500 metres, sometimes a stream, sometimes a torrent. It's a long way downhill, eroding, transporting, past the Losa and Lavoir dams to refresh you all the way to the alpine hamlet of Les Herbiers and even as far as the Tavernes gîte! There's no doubt about it, you're in one of the most important places in the history of hydroelectricity in Haute Maurienne Vanoise...
And if you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of a few trout sneaking into the stream. Keep your eyes peeled and... be patient! They like to hide discreetly between the pebbles.
