This unique war memorial depicts a woman in local dress mourning a loved one. It protests against the war and highlights the pain of a mother or a wife facing the loss of a loved one.
Description
A woman in local costume mourns a loved one lost in the war below the church in Val Cenis Termignon. This work by Luc Jaggi-Couvert, a Swiss sculptor from Val-Cenis Termignon, was one of the first pacifist memorials to the dead, while most of them exalt patriotic virtues.
