Exhibition - le Télégraphe Chappe

Cultural, Exhibition, Historic, Science in Val-Cenis
Free
  • The Chappe telegraph is an optical telecommunication means set up by Napoleon, one of whose posts above Sardières is located on the Paris-Milan line. This exhibition traces the fascinating history of the development of this unique system.

  • Composed of posts located regularly, the Chappe telegraph allowed Napoleon to communicate quickly with his armies throughout France and even beyond. In Haute Maurienne Vanoise, three posts have been restored, including that of Mollard Fleury above Sardières, and are operational. On this portion of the Paris-Milan line, the three stations communicate every summer, which is unique in France.
