Saint-Pierre d'Extravache church
Historic site and monument, Religious building, Church in Val-Cenis
Gratuit
-
Here remains the remains of a church whose tradition traces the foundation to two disciples of St. Peter. The oldest part, the apse, dates back to the 11th century. It is one of the rare testimonies of the Romanesque period in Savoy.
-
"In mountainous regions, at a distance from urban centres and in contrast to them, the sturdy and apsed chapels with culs-de-four apses, as is still the case with Saint-Pierre d'Extravache in the municipality of Bramans, gave way without transition to buildings of Baroque structure".
