16th National Chappe Telegraphy Day
A unique historical event in the world! As 200 years ago, coded messages will be transmitted between the three stations of Haute Maurienne at 11am and 3pm. Explanation of the operating system in the half hour preceding each message.
Description
Exchanges will be made between the three Chappe telegraphs of Haute Maurienne: the Plan de l'Ours (Saint André), Courberon (Avrieux) and the Mollard-Fleury (Val Cenis-Sardières).
Built in 1806 at the request of Napoleon I, they were part of the 33 posts of the telegraph line linking Lyon to Turin.
The optical mechanism, associated with a specific vocabulary, allows the sending of confidential messages by displaying 92 different signals.
