Fond d’Aussois

Above the dams of Plan d’Amont and Plan d’Aval, the Fond d’Aussois is the ideal place to discover the fauna and flora of the Vanoise National Park, and enjoy your first contact with this unspoilt wilderness on an easy family walk, be it simply a warm-up or a way of introducing children to the joys of hiking. Or why not go fishing in the mountain stream?

A small valley surrounded by mountain pastures

The Fond d’Aussois has always been inhabited in summer by the villagers of Aussois who used to lead their herds up to the mountain pastures to graze. You can still see the chalets and the chapel of Notre-Dame des Anges.

At the foot of peaks and glaciers – Pointe de l’Echelle, Rateau d’Ausssois, Pointe de l’Observatoire, Roche Chevrière, Pointe de Labby and the Labby glacier – this is also the only way to reach Pralognan la Vanoise via the Aussois pass.

The refuge at the bottom of the valley is just an hour away with a very easy hike from the Plan d’Amont dam.
A lovely walk to do with the children to discover the fauna and flora of the Vanoise National Park.

Around the Fond d'Aussois

From the dams

7 km from Aussois, by a narrow mountain road (not accessible to buses). You can leave your vehicle in the car park located between the two dams of Plan d’Aval and Plan d’Amont.
Take the dirt track that runs alongside the Plan d’Amont dam lake to the Séteria bridge and then follow the marked footpath.

From the top of the Grand Jeu chairlift

Take the chairlift from Aussois (open all summer except Saturdays), and follow the trail towards the Plan Sec refuge. Continue along the balcony path above the dams to the Fond d’Aussois.
