In Bessans, we cross the devil at the turning of the fountains, shops and even schools and homes. With cross-country skiing, it’s even the symbol of the village!
Bessans and the devil, it’s quite a story. In 1857, a dispute between the brotherhood of the cantors of Bessans and the priest of the village was “resolved” thanks to a wooden sculpture representing the devil holding under his arm a priest … Since, the tradition continues!
Take a break in the streets of the village and take a break at the “Chapoteur”, the woodcarving workshop where Georges and Fabrice Personnaz sculpt devils and thus maintain the legend!
