Avérole, two steps from Italy

The Averole valley is an important valley that can be discovered at the exit of Bessans towards Bonneval sur Arc. Several hamlets once inhabited are located on this Piedmont road between France and Italy. The peaks reaching more than 3500 m make this valley a must for Bessans and Haute Maurienne.

The typical Avérole valley

In the last century, this valley was still frequented by peddlers, horses and herds because access to the Arnès and Lauraret passes made it possible to avoid the Mont-Cenis road and especially the toll in force at the time to reach Susa in Italy!

Considered one of the most charming sites in Haute Maurienne Vanoise with its characteristic landscapes: a green valley and authentic hamlets steeped in history, the hamlet of Avérole, located at an altitude of 2037 m, was built in the early Middle Ages.

Access the valley by a shuttle bus from the village of Bessans, and then contemplate the beauty of nature through hikes to reach, among other things, the Avérole refuge.
