Museobar - Museum of the Border
The festive atmosphere of a mountain border town at the time of the attachment of Savoy to France and the digging of the first railway tunnel, to the sound of mechanical pianos.
Description
Savoy became French in 1860, and at the opening of the tunnel between France and Italy, which was pierced in 1871, Modane became a new French border town, as well as a major international railway station.
Forts were built and garrisons were installed to guard the border. French and Italian customs officers and railway workers worked and lived in Modane. The city resounds with French and Italian voices, the bastringue melodies of the wind-up pianos, the whistles of the steam trains, the Parisian singers who come to perform in the local cabarets...

Portrait
-
The most important portrait must be that of the town that the museum presents: Modane. A town that experienced historic times between the 19th and 20th centuries, a time when a mountain hamlet found itself at the heart of European history.
