Fort de Ronce
Dès 1861, les priorités du royaume d'Italie sont l'unité et la défense du territoire. Ainsi, il équipe le Mont-Cenis de plusieurs forts dont celui de Ronce à 2286 m d'altitude, un point de vue imprenable sur le lac du Mont-Cenis.
Description
A la fin du XIXème siècle, la jeune Italie veut s’assurer le contrôle du Mont-Cenis, axe transalpin millénaire. C'est dans un contexte de tensions diplomatiques avec la France que l'Italie fortifie le Mont-Cenis en l'équipant de plusieurs forts.
Le fort de Ronce, qui domine l'ensemble du col, est construit de 1877 à 1880 sur un plan circulaire à deux étages de feu adapté aux nouvelles possibilités de l'artillerie rayée.

From the fort, it is possible to take the path facing east that will lead you to the Lac Clair, or you can also join the path that rises in a northeasterly direction towards the Plan des Cavales, in order to have a view of the Ronce fort slightly overhanging.

Location
Access 1/2 hour walk.
From the parking lot located at the edge of the Mont-Cenis lake, about 1.5 km after crossing the pass, cross the national road to take the path that rises in a northeast direction. An alternative way to enjoy a superb panorama is to park at the parking of the pass and to take the balcony path of the Deux-mille which follows the level curve.
